I'm Tai Davis, a Chicago based DJ who absolutely loves Dance music. I have my own in-house studio, and have worked with the likes of Paul Johnson and Stacy Kidd. I used to be on the Chicago House label"DanceMania" before it went belly up. I write, produce, and sing my own songs, and I also write for other Chicago artists as well. My main genres are House, Acid House, Vocal House, Hardhouse, and Deep House. Released a cut on France's Rhythm Life records recently with Stacy Kidd.
Why this name?
Tai is my nickname and I just added my last name. Simple, no?
Do you play live?
I DJ live mainly in the suburbs of Chicago, southside.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is really a blessing for unsigned acts to get heard. After all the b.s. that goes on in this industry that is all band wants... exposure.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I'd really like to sign with an independent label given the type of music I do, but being on a major label wouldn't hurt either.
Your influences?
Some of my biggest influences have been Farley Jackmaster Funk, Robert Armani, Fingers Inc., DJ Pierre and numerous others. I also go crazy over Acid House.
Favorite spot?
Of course my favorite city is Chicago!
Equipment used:
I hate using computers to do music. I have to have all the modules and keyboards, drum machines etc. right in front of me. I use an AKAI MPC 2000 XL, a TB 303(the real thing), a tr 707, a BOSS br1600cd, TASCAM TMD1000, E-MU Emax, and various other modules and such.
Anything else...?
Just check out as much music(unsigned or indie) as you can. There is far better music out there than the big labels push.
