The Gloom is the sadcore/goth/alternative solo project of independent musician and artist Emma-O. Haunting, sad and powerful, The Gloom will grab your heart and squeeze till the blood pours out.
Why this name?
Because it is The Gloom.
Do you play live?
I play my punk stuff live. I haven't played The Gloom live at all, and I'm not sure if I will.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has allowed the musician to be self-employed. We can sell our CD's ourselves, promote ourselves, record ourselves--everything!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Well, there was a time when I would have, but only under certain conditions. But now I don't think I would sign with a major no matter what they agree to, because what it boils down to is, these are just businessmen in suits, they're not musicians or artists. But if a medium-sized label that I liked approached me, then sure, as long as it's win-win situation.
It's really hard to say yes or no until I am actually in that situation...

Band History:
The Gloom was formed in 2003 by original members Emma-O and Edgar LeBel. In 2004, Emma-O took on the project herself, and it has since then remained a solo side project.
Your influences?
Joy Division, Sonic Youth, Jesus and Mary Chain, X, Roy Orbison, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Hole, Nico, Velvet Underground.
Favorite spot?
Anywhere out in the wilderness, especially Elliot Lake, Ontario.
Equipment used:
Crap! ha ha ha
I have always said it's not what you've got that matters is what you do with what you've got that counts. For now I have an Epiphone Les Paul and I play it through a crappy Peavy Bandit amp. For this project I also use my beat-up old Fiesta acoustic, plus an old tom drum I found in the trash, maracas I found at Goodwill, plus various other dollar-store instruments. Oh yeah and an old reed organ I found by the side of the road and a kid's keyboard that was given to me by a friend.
