Performing to packed houses and sold-out shows, The Hitman Blues Band attracts a fanatical following of die-hard blues fans and those who love great music. They play a wide selection of covers - over 350 tunes! But the main draw is the original songs from their CD "Blooztown" and their new release, "Angel In The Shadows". As a fan said - "These are the songs I would write - if I could!".
Why this name?
Russell "Hitman" Alexander got his name from his extensive repetoire of tunes - over 400 rock, blues, jazz, reggae and funk tunes and over 300 "standards" - Porter, Gershwin, Berlin, etc.
Do you play live?
We play live all over the US East Coast, just finished touring the UK (going back in May-June of 2005 and will include Europe this time) and in various other parts of the US.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It provides much more exposure for indie bands than has ever been possible in the past.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It depends on the deal - a Press & Distribute deal could be worthwhile if the terms are advantageous for both parties.
Band History:
Formed in 1986, The Hitman Blues Band played all over the New York metro area before moving on to the UK and the rest of the US Eastern Seaboard - plus a quick stop on the West Coast. While the personnel have changed over the years due to touring demands (except for Russell "Hitman" Alexander), the line-up has always been top notch players with the fire and experience needed to lift up the audience. The studio group has used some of the most respected players in music, including Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, Ray Alexander, Bobby Forrester, Richard Crooks, Seth Glassman, and others.
