Roddy Huggan hails from Stornoway and plays a style best described as an acoustic alternative/folk hybrid. Strong melodies and lyrics that deal with real life and emotions are prevalent throughout Roddy's work. Sometimes deadly serious, sometimes full of off-the-wall humour and mad imaginings Roddy's songs are never dull and always have a story behind them. Many of his songs deal with life in the Western Isles of Scotland.
Do you play live?
I play occasionally in Moray and the Highlands. I have only recently been back playing live after a long break but have already played a live set for Radio Nan Gaidheal in Edinburgh and at the 2005 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Anyone can now easily have a worldwide presence and get feedback on their music. Individual songs become more important than traditional albums and selling music becomes easier as the internet allows music to be sold direct and with no manufacturing/promotion costs.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I like the idea of songwriters being independent.

Roddy strongly denies any involvement with the band Memphis Louie & The Rockin' Firebird Of Death although his tongue may be loosened by the offer of free beer or by shining a strong light in his face and shouting at him.

Your influences?
Sounds like a cross between Runrig, R.E.M. and Aimee Mann with a hint of The Waterboys. Currently enjoying music in the style of Death Cab For Cutie/Rilo Kiley/Via Audio.
