spaceLemon creates new soundscapes between progressive rock, space rock and psychedelic. Classic rock guitar sounds are as well used as electronic. Two female voices are accompanied by unusual instruments like didgeridoo, flute or sitar.
Why this name?
"Space" is a hint to the sound we want to create, "lemon" just sounds refreshing...
Do you play live?
Yes, we are mainly a live band. Our biggest gig was in front of 1000 people at a newcomer festival, our most important gig was at the cologne popkomm ringfest 2002.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Mp3 is a great opportunity for bands to get listened all over the world and still stay independent from the music industry. I hope some of the free mp3 portals will get more attention by public in the future.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No. Musical commerce kills creativity.
Band History:
spaceLemon was founded in 2000 by the former members of a band called "Franda Chrom", as a result of a change of the band's musical style. The most important year so far was 2002, when we released our self produced debut album, and played a very important gig at the cologne ringfest.
In 2003, our guitarist christian died in an accident, which forced us to interupt live activities. The band continued with rehearsels in winter 2003.
In 2004, Frank's and Dani's daughter Amelie was born, so in this year, there were also no live concerts. We use the time writing and recording new songs. New gigs are planned for summer 2005.
