We're 20FTWide, and we play guitar rock with old-school chops and attitude. We're nice guys, we're just a bit grumpy.
Why this name?
We were trying for a long time to come up with a name, with no success at all. We kept writing material, though, and we finished listening to playback of a song called 'Why Don't You Leave', and somebody said the sound was so big it sounded '20 foot wide'. Everybody, at the same time, went 'HEEEEYYYYYYYY......'.
Do you play live?
We play live in and around NYC, and we like it a lot. We're starting to get into more of the top clubs in the new year, which we're pretty excited about.
If you make it big..?
We'll probably spend LOTS of money on guitars.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The fact that we can come to a site like this one and put our music here for anyone to hear changes the music industry.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It would have to be a sweet contract. Some of us were involved with a major label a few years back, and it pretty much sucked at the end of the day.
Band History:
We started in 1996 as an alternative country band called Big Sky. We played in and around NYC for two years and released the CD 'House of Dreams'. As we wrote more material for Big Sky, it just kept getting louder and darker. Finally, we stowed the pedal steel and the acoustic guitars and turned the amps back up.
We're different from most bands in that we've got three guitar players and no steady bass player, so we all take turns playing bass. It's pretty cool that the sound of the band stays the same, but the feel changes ever-so-slightly from song to song.
We just finished the first 20FTWide CD, 'Opt For Tude', and you can get it from our site. We won't tell you whether to like it. We want you to check it out and decide for yourself. That's what we'd do.
