Hi! Welcome to the First Parable website (soundclick.com version)! We are a Christian worship/ acoustic group that would love to see you come and see us.
Why this name?
The name "First Parable" comes from the first actual parable that Jesus ever told, found in Luke 8:5-15...
"A farmer went out to sow his seed. Some of it fell on the road; it was trampled down and the birds ate it. Other seed fell in the gravel; it sprouted, but withered because it didn't have good roots. Other seed fell in the weeds; the weeds grew with it and strangled it. Other seed fell in rich earth and produced a bumper crop.
'Are you listening to this? Really listening?'
His disciples asked, 'why did you tell this story?'
He said, 'You've been given insight into God's kingdom- you know how it works. There are others who need stories. But even with stories some of them aren't going to get it:
'Their eyes are open but don't see a thing,
their ears are open but don't hear a thing.'
'This story is about some of those people. The seed is the Word of God. The seeds on the road are those who hear the Word, but no sooner do they hear it than the Devil snatches it from them so they won't believe and be saved.
'The seeds in the gravel are those who hear with enthusiasm, but the enthusiasm doesn't go very deep. It's only another fad, and the moment there's trouble, it's gone.
'And the seed that fell in the weeds- well, these are the ones who hear, but then the seed is crowded out and nothing comes of it as they go about their lives worrying about tomorrow, making money and having fun.
'But the seed in the good earth- these are the good hearts who sieze the Word and hold on no matter what, sticking with it until these's a harvest.'"

Do you play live?
We play live at pretty much anywhere that is family friendly. It's a huge pleasure to have the various different audiences, and seeing how they react to the songs in different ways. There was one instance where we were getting ready to play our first song in the show and then Brandon realized that he didn't have a pick! lol. So he had to go searching for a pick while Kris, Priscilla, and I pretty much talked to the crowd. Luckily, the Brandino finally found a pick that was sent down by God himself and we were able to continue the show.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It makes it so much easier to get independant bands' names and music out into the public. It's really a blessing, especially for those of us who don't get to play very many shows.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Most definately. It's one thing to have a small audience that is receptive to your music and actually listens and takes in what we try to say, but that would be incredible if we could spread the gospel through our music in that way!
Band History:
All the members of First Parable have been really good friends for years now. Brandon and Brian had been school friends sense 8th grade and Brian, Kris, and Priscilla all went to the same church. Around the summer of 2001, Brian, Kris, and another student began a church worship group, which later included Priscilla on the violin. Later, Brian left the church and began playing in the same worship band with Brandon and eventually the idea started floating around about starting an acoustic band. Soon Brian, Brandon, Kris, and Priscilla began playing together at Brian's house and did their first show in August 2004 at Wholly Grounds Coffee shop.
Your influences?
Jars of Clay, Nickel Creek, David Crowder Band, Union Station, Radial Angel, and even Blindside.
Favorite spot?
Moore. There are so many venues there it's unreal.
Equipment used:
Brandon and Brian play yamaha acoustic guitars, Kris play an acoustic bass, and Priscilla plays the violin (quite wonderfully i might add...)
Anything else...?
It really is our prayer that you don't just listen to the music, but that you focus on the words of our songs. Christ plays a huge part of everything we do, and we hope its evident in the music. Just remember that Jesus loves you, He died for you, and He's waiting for you no matter what.
