I'm an unorthodox rapper from the land of VA. The music is raw and it speaks for itself. I'm hear to bridge the gap between radio and underground not too gritty, and by no mean's glossy. I'm hear to make the music that I know everyone would like to hear if they could just get away from corporate big wigs who are constantly trying to spoon feed them the same garbage. I'm here to rap, not degrade my race and help destroy it by constantly putting negativity in your ear. Nor am I hear to preach. I just want things to be how they were when you could hear a person rap and be like: "yo, he ripped that sh**". I'm simply a rapper, nothing more nothing less....and damn good one too I might add.
Why this name?
The name Manchi came from everything I am, It's best explained by one of the first raps I wrote: "The definition of Manchi means rap deviancy/the root of mischievous man flipped over to be/Manchi without the evous/I still remain devious/also chopped off the mis which was previous to chievous." Spell it out let it settle in or whatever. Bottom line though, by being a mischievous man or rap deviant I stay outside of the norm. I'm a hard headed cat who won't just sit back and be told this is what the industry wants so this is how you'll rap. If the industry don't want me f*** em'. I'll just continue to make dough by pushin' music out on the streets to those who ain't into the prepackaged candy a** rap your told to love. I put my heart into this music and always will....but I digress.
Do you play live?
Me and the cat that I rap with (Mass Ginn, the other half of Conquerborn) did our first show at Hivestock in Tampa, Fl. and loved it down there. We were headliners a couple of times at a bar in our hometown (VA. Beach, VA.) called Classics along with our labelmate YZE and a couple other cats. As far as special moments, just being on stage and rippin' sh** is special to me.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Definately a change for the better, gives people a chance to hear different sounds and genres. It's good they started making people pay for them sh**'s though comin' form an artist standpoint. As far as a listener though, I ain't gonna lie I use to download other peoples music all the time, guilty as charged....But I stay clear from that now.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the contract was one which allowed me complete and total freedom. I ain't on some just straight f*** the radio and exposure, but if i don't feel what i'm making it ain't worth it. I'm demandin' a Ray Charles type deal yo, I more than deserve it.
Band History:
This ain't E Hollywood story, and there ain't alot to tell. I started rappin' late(at age 19)was nasty from the start and been nasty since. I got put on by my boy who I hung out with in highschool who had been rappin' since then. He was like: "yo man I know you can rap if you put your mind to it" and I was like: "shut up n**** and finish hittin' the L, you I'm-the-coach-that-believes-in-you-a**-n****" and that was that. Sometime later I wrote a rap at work, thought it sounded good and started to build from there. So, I let my boy hear it, he liked it, we formed a group called Boom Dynasty (now Conquerborn) and the rest is history.
Your influences?
People who influenced me rap wise: Mobb Deep, The Roots, Common, MF DOOM(still feelin' his shit), Nas, Big Daddy Kane, Boot Camp Click, Mos Def, etc.. Influences beat wise: DJ Premiere, Pete Rock, Madlib, MF DOOM, Havoc(of Mobb Deep), etc.. Oldschool influences: Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Barry White, Hubert Laws, Earth Wind and Fire.....I hate this f***in' question because I guess the purpose is to let you know who I kind of sound like, but me and my SevCity brethren don't sound like no one I know of, and with a gumbo of influence like that how could I?
Favorite spot?
Wherever the folks congrete to hear my music is cool with me, But I was born and raised in VA. and as slow paced as it can sometimes be I'mma rep this spot till the day I die(even when I got my mansion in Vegas).
Anything else...?
Yeah there's somethin else, sh**y rap kills my high that's why I stopped smokin' and don't listen to the radio no more. I try my damnedest not to make bad music. If you think my music sucks screw you (I'm playin'... kinda)but you can rest assured I'm always on the road to constant evolution so if you do feel that way i'm gonna improve. Being average bores the s*** out of me.
