Verenn is a Finnish modern rock band. Verenn creates strong music affected by several different musical styles from industrial to heavy and from grunge to pop. Our ultimate aim is not to create somewhat unique songs only for ourselves, but for all the people enjoying the chosen genre - but of course this is done in a way that we find enjoyable as well! Verenn's music is strongly based on melodic vocals, strong overdrive guitar riffs, catchy grooves and rhytmic bass lines, and also on the message behind the lyrics.
Why this name?
From a dream Jussi saw - in Finnish "Verenn" actually means nothing, but it sounds nice and has quite unique feeling.
Do you play live?
At the moment, no.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has many good aspects yes, although piracy is a huge problem. At least for unsigned artists the .mp3 is probably best way of promoting.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
At this moment, it would not be very likely. Without instant success, major labels will usually get rid of you quite soon. However, this kind of thing is always depending on the contract that is offered to you.
Band History:
The idea of Verenn saw its daylight during Jussi was doing his military service. At that time he played bass at the rock band called "The Drama". The people in The Drama wanted to move forward after six years of making music together, so the band broke up. People went to different directions and Jussi started to develop the idea of Verenn.
In April 2000 Jussi wrote the first two songs under a project title "Verenn". Songs were simple tracker based, pure industrial heavy metal without vocals. The experiment encouraged Jussi since the songs seemed to work really nice. Jussi wrote more songs and bought different kinds of studio equipment for the purposes of track composing.
Soon it became pretty clear that the songs really required vocals. At the beginning Jussi used a female vocalist, but gradually he started to feel that a male voice would be preferrable to Verenn's overall sound. During 2001-2003 a couple of male vocalist's tried to fill in for the missing link, but the co-operation did not give the results Jussi was looking for.
Then, in summer 2003 Jussi went fishing with his old friend Mikko and asked if he would be interested in writing lyrics and composing the vocal lines for Verenn. The guys started to make some demos, "Soul" and "Stars are out of Place" were born from the collaboration and the puzzle was finally complete.
