Lizard Alert began in 2001 as a trio consisting of Matt Hohnstein (guitar/vocal), Erik Skinner (bass), and Nick Aretakis (drums). We played as a group for a couple of years until college came, at which point Erik and Nick stopped being involved with the group so I (Matt) took the group as a solo project for the time being.

Our music was general rock-ish, with a typical humorous, light-hearted flare.
Why this name?
One night I was chatting with Erik (ex-bassist) and he mentioned how there was a tornado alert (horn) during the football game he went to that afternoon and I wondered if there were ever any Godzilla alerts in any of those films. The lizard part just kind of stuck.
Do you play live?
We used to, but due to a lack of time and members, I only play for small groups of friends (mostly just covers that I can't upload here for copyright concerns).
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well, for one thing I don't have to actually pay anybody to record me or any of that; so that's good, I guess, since I probably wouldn't pay to use a studio ;)
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Maybe, maybe not. Probably not -- I'm not in music for the money. I'd like to keep the rights to my songs seeing as I DID write them, not somebody else.
Band History:
Lizard Alert is a general rock group from Littleton, Colorado that was founded in 2001. At the current time, the only remaining member is the founder, Matt (me), but I'm currently looking for replacements.

We began recording by videotaping ourselves and then transferring this over to digital, but the quality was pretty mediocre at best. Eventually, I purchased a decent recording system and have been using that ever since.

The other two bandmates left in mid-2003 and I have been continuing the project ever since; playing all parts.
Your influences?
[Pre-1999] Blink182, Reel Big Fish, Offspring, The Ventures, The Beatles, video game music, Dick Dale.

I like the sound of a lot of punk music, but I don't fit into that scene, nor does what I write. I take these influences and craft them into my own unique blend of rock, punk, ska, and classic video game music.
