My mother says I've been singing since as long as she can remember. According to the family, when 'Subete a Mi Moto' by Menudo came out- I would make them all sing and dance with me. She says that's thanks to my Aunt Ines. I was either one or one and a half...
Why this name?
Jessica is my name- all my friends call me Jess. Pineda is my mother's maiden name.
Do you play live?
Playing live is what I live for. It's exciting!! And it's what it's all about- the fans. I've sang at the Voodoo Lounge in Bayside- doing a hook for a local band. My first solo performance was Novemeber 20, 2004 at Chetty Red Nightclub on 23RD and Madison. I was the only female to perform that night at the X'Posed Showcase thrown by SmokinHotUSA.com[CHECK THEM OUT FOR THE HOTTEST PARTIES IN NYC-Shout to Danita and Sara] It was great- SONY gave me their card. My next appearance is January 15th at PS 154. Thrown by BacKdoor Entertainment- it's gonna be FIRE...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it gives artists an opportunity to reach out to people and develope themselves without the industry makin them something they're not. My goal is to make it on my own and then have the industry notice me. That way I have leverage. I'm thankful for the internet and the new technology available because it's gonna help me do what I gotta do.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would if the terms were right and if my FAMILY's in. I've been working with a lot of people the past 6 years and if I'm eating- they gotta eat, too.
Your influences?
My greatest musical influences- or I should say earliest- are Claudia de Colombia, Ana Gabriel, Menudo, Julio Iglesias, Jose Luis Perales, Camilo Sesto, Emmanuel, Gloria Trevi, Menudo, Ricky Martin, Vicente Fernandez, Juan Gabriel... Mariah Carey, Lauren Hill, Mary J. Blige, Lil' Kim, Big L (RIP), Pink, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Alicia Keys, Fiona Apple, Esthero, Portishead, Sarah McLaughlin, Jay-Z- and my soul sister- BILLY HOLIDAY (RIP mama)...
