Jay Murda aka The Reason Thurr's Envy: The 25 year old midwest artist from the streets of East St Louis. Only a fraction of the group "Midwest Mademen"(E Peezy,Leesus,Jack Frost,2stax,Un Boon) and we got "30 L.O.W."(Walkscientific,ST-1) Jay's been doing his music seriously since the young age of 13. It started from writing poetry at just 8 years old and that helped him excell in his writing abilities. Along the way he picked up freestyling skills by battling anyone who challenged him and his record speaks for itself...no losses.
Why this name?
Midwest Mademen because we made...we can't be touched....its all about young blacks getting money and sticking together as fam
Do you play live?
Yeah, wherever the fans want us. You can find us at Jazz and Blues on wednesday in fairview heights,illinois or downton St. Louis @ Creepy Crawl on Thursdays. Of course I love performing, music's in our hearts.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Not really. It helps get your music out, but when cats be copying your stuff for free it hurts the pockets a little. But you can overcome that if you tight like that.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the money right yea,but if we lose all creative control then no.
Band History:
I started writing poems when I was 8 years old. My moms always made me do it cause I had good writing ability whenever I was bored. Then from there I just turnt it into music and people started really feeling my s**t. I did a lot of freestyling and battling and thats what got my name out in the streets a bit. Now I'm the new terror for the rap game!
Your influences?
2Pac,Big Pun,Nas,Rakim,Slick Rick,Cassidy,AZ,Fat Boys(they didn't give a s**t that they was big,they just did they thing)and a lot of the classic peoples like Billie Holiday and Minnie Irpperton. Last but not least I need to definitely give props to my oldest brother Lil Walk aka Walkscientific and his mans DMC cause they was doing they thing when I was still pissing in the bed,ya feel me...My environment is what makes me though
