GIBBY G. INTERVIEW:
GIBBY G. INTERVIEW:
Why this name?
I was named "Gibby" by my 6th grade teacher. Coincidentally my father had that same name when he was in school. But anyways, I just lived off that name because there came to be so many Ryans in this world. And its hard to tell who peeps are talking about. Then in 8th grade, SPB gave me the "G." on the end of my name. I had no idea what it stood for back then, so I left that up to the audience to decide, until I found it to be commonly known as "Gangsta" so thats what it became. I was also referred to as my favorite "Gibby the Muthaf***in Gangsta" so I made that my full emcee name. But Gibby G. is the standard name I use.
Do you play live?
Rarely. It depends if I have a stage to perform on or an audience that calls me. And its wherever im called to, but I've only performed here in Vacaville so far. O but I have battled in Sacramento too so I guess that counts. And I have a passion for being on stage. I was born without a fear of performing on stage. Idk why it could be because of the developmental disorder I have, or because my moms used to turn on the news a lot when I was little, and I saw politicians speaking on stage and saw that everyone liked them afterword. So there was nothing to worry about.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It does a lot for it. More artists can collab and meet eachother from all over the nation. Expanding the brotherhood of the rap game. I mean, I met Infinite-A on myspace, and sh*** I havent even met her in person yet, but I got her on my album just by IM transfer of beats and us droppin our own lyrics on the track. So yea, it does a hell of a lot.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, definitley.
Band History:
Born Ryan Gibbs 6/7/86 in da bay area. Gibby began his career when friend Spencer Beavers wanted to turn a joke song of Gibbys into a rap song. This was Gibby G.s first song, "Giraffe." The song was heard all over Vacaville as peeps begged him to rap it. Gibby enjoyed the game but did not pursue a career yet due to family repercussions. He took a short break in the summer of 2001, but sprung into tha game full force with an "extra credit" rap in history class. Soon afterword joining Andrew Wickens' crew of emotional/poetic rappers. In February of 2002 he released his first album "He's long, He's tall, He's Giraffe" talking about basic subjects. Sort of the seed of his career, with a humorous twist. "Class Clown" was released in December of 2002, focusing on the emotional subjects and the problems in everyday life that one will face. The Third album, "Revelation" has just recently been released, and focuses on the "G" part of Gibby G., the dark, gangsta side.
Your influences?
Many peeps say I sound like cypress hill, but im a mix of eminem/dr. dre/ludacris/all the other hip hop rappers. Also peeps from my town influenced me in their ways. and im tryin to incorporate as many elements from the game as I can in these flows. I try to include dance music, songs about Violence, sex, and drugs. and i may do one or two songs about a special somebody. But no more.
Favorite spot?
I dig my own city, Vacaville, CA. I lived here all my life, and this is my chillin spot. I also dig sacramento except a lot of bi***es over there play too much hard to get. LA is dope! ESPECIALLY tha slauson swap meet. Also frisco is too. Cities where theres hella to do, im diggin.
