ROBINSONG: Parodies and pop tunes of a somewhat flighty nature
Why this name?
Batman and Robin were childhood heroes of mine, at about the same age that I became involved in songwriting and recording. I actually had a custom-made Robin costume at one time. I have my doubts that it still fits.
Do you play live?
The few times I've played live (keyboards and vocals in a couple of bands) were rewarding but I find studio multitracking much more satisfying because I have complete control over every note. (Well, sometimes.)
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We're here, aren't we?
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I'd be happy just to write for other recording artists, as well as produce them. Touring and promoting would not be my bag.
Band History:
I started out writing parodies of show tunes to amuse my family. Over time it led to a broadcasting career that would include producing musical comedy for national radio shows. Though serious songwriting is my primary hobby, I also create parodies to celebrate my longstanding friendship with another songwriter/producer, RZ. Some of these birthday tributes are the focus here.
Your influences?
The Beatles, James Taylor, Sting, Lerner & Loewe, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Steven Curtis Chapman, Phil Keaggy, Mel Brooks and Don Agrati have all been influences. Carly Simon had it going on too.
Favorite spot?
Cyberspace. Or Nantucket.
Equipment used:
Roland, Yamaha, Korg and Akai recording gear and keyboards. Gibson, Fender, PRS and Alvarez guitars. For tweaking the final tracks I transfer everything to Cool Edit Pro.
Anything else...?
Love is real ... real is love.
