Band History:
The band was created in September 2001 with the following line-up: Alexander Naydenov on keyboards, Peter Kamenov – guitars, Alexander Donchev – bass guitar and Nikola Ivanov (ex - No Smoking, ex - Orbelus) on the drums. The initial targeted genre was melodic gothic/doom/black metal with focusing on original, author's musical ideas. In the spring of 2002 after some differences in opinion and genre development between Dontchev and the other members, Fanagoria had to start looking for a new bass guitarist.
Dimiter HadjiIliev was the new member on the bass. With this new line-up and still in search of an appropriate singer the band recorded an instrumental demo in June 2002. In September 2002 Fanagoria finally found its long missing vocalist in the voice of Ivailo Iliev and began performing live. Their first concerts were in Botevgrad with the local band P.I.M.S and in Sofia in the “Rock in Past Tense” rock club, supporting the famous Bulgarian blues rocker Vasko The Patch. In their following concert the band experimented with female backing vocals. The experiment turned out to be successful and the female vocalist Kalina Dontcheva joined the band for the series of concerts between March and May 2003 in the O! Shipka club in Sofia.
The summer of 2003 was a tough one for the band. Quarrels in the band resulted in the failure of an arranged recording session in Grafitti studio. Lawsuits were also filed, against another band, illegally using the same name. In addition the band was abandoned by its bass player and female vocalist.
Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Bulgarian rock band Atlantic, Fanagoria participated in a tribute concert once again with male vocalist only and Penko Kotov (from Future Darkness) on the bass. The last appearance of the band up till this date was again in the O!Shipka club, featuring Deyan Mendev on the bass, and Maria – solist of the Bulgarian National Radio Choir on the female vocals. In February 2004 the video for the song Paranoya was made using footage from the band's past concerts.Latest changes in line-up include Yoncho Pavlov - Wintersoul - on the lead vocals, replacing Ivailo Iliev, who dedicated himself to different kinds of music.
