Viscous Elvis Cyst is a goth/industrial noise-rock mess. Imagine if Merzbow and Lydia Lunch had a child. (Lucky Merzbow...) That would be VEC!
Why this name?
Well, it started with Rob trying to utter the name of a certain industrial/ebm band. Rob failed and "Viscous Elvis Cyst" is sort of what it sounded like.
Do you play live?
We've played live three time. Twice is Rob's basement, and once at Rob's sister's 16th birthday party. That show sucked. The crowd tried to ignore us. Good thing we recorded it!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I'm not sure if mp3 will change anything other than making radio obsolete, thank God! We use mp3 as a means of getting our stuff out to the people who want to hear it. Fuchsia Death Records, the artist-collective we belong to, releases all its material for free online. We want people to get music, but a bunch of crap. Music is free.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
At first we would say "hell no." But if they wanted us, they can have us! BUt who would want it?
Band History:
part of the "fuchsia death collective," viscous elvis cyst began as a mock-ebm/goth project. developed into stupid crap. the first album, "John Denver Qualifies for Free Cash", was recorded in under two months (though about 3 full days of collective recording). a few live shows, out-takes and remixes were then collected on the "NO E.P." and released through fuchsia death records. then a major project involving kanji radicals was taken up. only god knows how that will end up! adam's solo project is freeze etch, while rob has no talent outside the context of idiotic noise-rock.
Your influences?
We have three sorts of influences. First is experimental music like Merzbow and Solmania. The second is gothic-industrial stuff like the Cure and Wumpscut. The third is stupid bull that we make more fun of than actually enjoy.
Favorite spot?
What? Huh? What's the point of this question?
Equipment used:
Korg EA-1 synth, Zoom RhythmTrak 234 drum machine, Yamaha 500-M keyboard, various distortion/multi-effects pedals, Silvertone SS-11 electric guitar, Norman B-20 acoustic guitar, vocals, two (sometimes three) amps, boombox well equipped with built-in mic, mini-disc recorder
Anything else...?
Suck it. Suck it hard. (That's our immature slogan.)
