Formed Spring, 2004. Stick played his songs with cousin Mr. Chappell on the drums (pair named Chapstick). Met Dan, another singer/songwriter at an open mic. Between the two of us we had some great material and a shared love of improvisation.
Why this name?
It was Chapstick (mr. chappell and Stick) until we added the third man, nation was just a random addition.
Do you play live?
We have the most fun playing at home, and we try to have a weekly "show" and invite friends over. We've played one paying gig at the Auburn Ale House. It went great! Thanks to all the friends and family who came out and supported our efforts.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
broaden minds. Near-instant access to non-mainstream music. Nowadays, if you are interested in music, a few hours on allmusic.com and a couple more hours downloading illegal mp3s and you can really learn alot about our musical culture.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
hell yeah. If they are paying. There will always be a place for mainstream and marketing. Most people need to be told what to listen to anyway. I have no problem with that
Your influences?
Stick: brings some bilingual interests in, main singing influence is Caetano Veloso. Adds a touch of bossa nova rhythm whenever possible
Dan: brings a folk punk flavour to the group.
Cole: he's a phish-head. A wasted, jam-happy pleasure boy. And he's popular with the ladies.
