The three artists, G. Whyte, Smiley Chris, & Brian H. formerly known as "Da Honkeys" began the Resurrected Souljas in Summer 2004. As THE preceding Drum Major at Freeport High, Brian Halton a.k.a NYC's Finest returned to Freeport High School after his 1st year in college and used his pre-established connections in the music department to recruit the most talented members from the 2004 Freeport High School Marching Band and Select Chorale to complete his group.
Email us if you want to collaborate with the Resurrected Souljas under the What Good Entertainment label created by the Halton brothers for Summer 2009!!!

Why this name?
Wendys.... One day, in late May 2004, Da Honkeys and their friend and fellow rap artist Brandon had an important meeting... AT WENDYS... to discuss the future of their music careers. They decided Da Honkeys were in need of a new group name because over the years their skills had been evolving and the name: Da Honkeys was just too corny to reflect their level. Bri thought of the name Resurrected Soldiers, but G. Whyte out of respect for 2pac (a rapper popular in the late 90's) ensured that we spell Souljas with an SOULjas emphasizing as 2pac emphasized the soul within us all.
If "resurrected" sounds to you like the group might value the Christian religion highly, you'd be totally right. Brian, a dedicated and extremely righteous Christian, had just sung a Latin song about Christ and his resurrection with Mr. Pagano and the FHS Choir in Brian's 4th consecutive annual performance in Carnegie Hall. As youth leaders in OHR parish in Freeport Ny, Chris and Brian had also been reading an extremely Christ-centered book entitled "The Purpose Driven Life" so Christ's resurrection was heavily on their hearts and minds.

Do you play live?
Yes we play live. We have played at various locations:
Youth Fest 2004
This was the biggest concert of the year for us and maybe the biggest public display of faith ever accomplished by our group. Performing at this retreat, sponsored by Brian and Smiley's youth group (OHR of Freeport, NY), we were proud to perform for this group of (what was said to be) 1000. We opened with "You Are My Master" that featured an opening rap by Smiley. Bri jammed away at the key board, singing heart felt lyrics while Gary played bass and Alex played guitar. Then all of the Souljas took the stage and performed "The Covenant". Since Brandon couldn't make it, Bri rapped his verse, Smiley performed his as regular. The chorus was sung by Elise, Danny O, and Jeff. Following that song was "I Want More". We had a disadvantage because Andrew B couldn't be there to play the drums, so we had to get a sample of his recorded drum session to play in the background. With Elise, Jeff, and Bri on vocals and The Incredible Team rapping, it worked out very well. Our closing song was the live rendition of "Sanctuary." It was the highlight of the night because it began to rain and everyone ran under the tent so our audience became so much bigger then we expected. We truly "played in the reign"...the reign of God!!!!!!!!

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No!!! This group will show the world that a group of friends can be sucessful in creating their own independent record label...ours being WHATZ GOOD Entertainment, and make it big!!!
Your influences?
Fort minor/ Rising Tied, specifically Mike Shinoda's "High Road," "Where'd you go," "Right Now" and "Remember the Name"...the energy on these tracks is highly comparable to the incredibly positive energy on R. Souljas' tracks.
