Why this name?
I was born with it.
Do you play live?
Yes... in California, and I had a short stint in Texas, and now I'm hoping to branch out and play wherever you folks'll take me.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it makes it easier for indie artists, because they can get their music to more people faster, but the head honchoes in the industry are hurt a lot (in the wallet more than anything) by it, because people misuse the technology.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the opportunity arose: definately. However, I'm a big fan of Ben Harper, and I look up to him a lot because he did the biggest chunk of his music career on his own without label bakcing. So, it gives me hope that you can get the labels attention by making a name for yourself.
Band History:
Blake Williams has been a solo artist since the age of about 15 (way back in late 2000). He began teaching himself how to play piano at about that age. This led to eventually teaching himself to play guitar, as well. Before he knew it, he was recording his first release at a local California studio in the summer of 2002. Since then he has continued to record, write and play many shows in his area(s). And he's still going strong.
Your influences?
I love all music... i know a lot of people say that, but i just have a strong appreaciation for all music. I love the old acoustic blues guys (Lightning Hopkins, Robert Johnson, etc.), the legend of Jazz (Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, etc.), the greats of Country and Alt-Country (Ryan Adams, Uncle Tupelo, Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Waylon Jennings, etc.), and I can just as well sit back and relax to the older Folk guys (James Taylor, Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, etc.), but because of this eclectic taste in music, my all time favorite musician is Van Morrison... he has an ability to theme his albums around whatever genre was influencing him the most at the time and i love that. He's never scared to experiment.
Favorite spot?
Couldn't say... haven't done enough traveling.
Equipment used:
I use an old beat up acoustic and a $99 microphone. And these old vocal chords, and the occasional Hohner Harmonica.
Anything else...?
I like Conan O'Brien, Dane Cook, and I dont have the ability to grow a beard, though I've tried (and I'm still trying)...
