Hi, my name is mattio. Here's some music. I'd like to give 'em some polished recordings, but don't have the time or the gear right now.
This kid rocks.
Especially if he helps me record some more stuff.

Why this name?
My name is mattio, it's simple as that. However, if I had accompaniment, I might call it Sad Robot, or The Flaming Articles of Clothing.
A friend of mine made this great stencil, a robot with big sad eyes and a broken heart. It was so sweet--that's where I got the name Sad Robot from. But then my housemate pointed out that Sadness and Robots are stereotypical emo icons--there's this 'influential' Get Up Kids album, and all the artwork is robots, kind of like the ones from explodingdog.com. And while my music may be "emotional," I don't intend to associate myself with a specific musical culture by acquiring that iconography. So I'm in a bind.
But for now, i remain, mattio.

Do you play live?
My band, Green, has played a few noteworthy shows at a few places, including Don Hill's in Manhattan.
I enjoy playing live because I enjoy a certain amount of buffoonery, the fun you're allowed to have when there's a mic in front of your face and a guitar in your hand. I have fun playing music, and I enjoy being listened to. I feel thankful when people listen, because their reception is important and inspiring to me. I feel like there's a real give-and-take and that playing an listening and dancing and smiling and laughing all together can create a lot of love in one small room.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's not fifteen minutes of fame anymore. Now, everybody gets to be famous, but only to fifteen hundred people.
Now, bands that will never be on the radio can be on the Top 40 or whatever, because of things like myspace and whatnot. It's a whole new way for information to travel and "online communities" provide a whole new way to set standards.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If somebody paid me to do what I wanted to, yeah, I would, but I'd have to have complete control. In other words, no, because they'd never give me what I want. Irrelevant, anyway. Unless you want to offer me something.
Band History:
Once, i started pressuring my friends into listening into my music. that trend continues to this day.
Your influences?
Rum! My main influence is rum! I am under the influence of rum!
Equipment used:
A computer running Multiquence, a shareware multitracking program. A SM57. An epiphone deadnaught acoustic. A Fender Cyclone and a Fender Blues Junior, occasionally in conjunction with a Boss Blues Driver.
Anything else...?
I could really use new strings. I can't afford them right now.
