I'm Dan Hughes aka the Radikal and I'm a 19 year old emcee from Kalamazoo, MI. My mission is to see lives impacted and radically changed when people hear my music. My mission also is to let the World know who Jesus really is through my music! My message is radically different from other "Christian" Rappers, because my music is not watered down but, real, uncut, and very blunt. Through my music I talk about relevant issues and issues that need to be addressed, and that can offend cats because people don't want to hear the truth! I spit for everybody: No matter the race, Christian or non- christian, And my music affects both the underground and the Radio! All I'm really trying to do is speak my heart and mind, show cats the truth, and then they do whatever they want with the knowledge I give them!
Why this name?
I choose the Radikal, because that name defines my personality, my message, my music, and my faith. A name is so important, because the name you have reflects on you as a person and as an artist. So considering all that, it only seemed right to name myself the Radikal and spell it differently to be creative and more radikal with it! The truth is I'm so radikal in my message that half of the time the Streets don't embrace me because I'm to Spiritual and the church don't embrace me because I'm to street!
Do you play live?
Oh yes, I definitly perform live! I perform anywhere people will listen, whether thats at a show or in the streets. I'm an emcee that has a message for the people, so it's all about releasing that message and not the performance.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, I am looking to be signed and I am currently talking to some labels and management groups right now.
Your influences?
Thats a hard question to answer, because I've had so many influences during my career. I'd have to say D.N.A., Severe, Jay Z, Jadakiss, Cassidy, DMX, Cross Movement, Corey Redd, Da Truth, Mase, Kanye West, and New Breed.
Favorite spot?
Man I love VA, thats where I'm from, so naturally I love it. Its home to me!
