Booyaka, A funky legend from Shropshire featuring Matt Wright on Vocals & Trumpet, The legend Dr.Hotshit Jive Jim Streets on Guitar, Dirty basslines master Lee "SKID" Stone, And between two drummers DR.Leyton B.OBE & Matt "Slurpy" Simpson. No longer together as a regular gigging unit but always can come together for a good party or festival. Highly influenced by parties, nice ladies and great tunes such as Parliament Funkadelic, Hendrix, Gong etc
Why this name?
Booyaka was given to us by a good Wolverhampton mate! Booyaka means respect & can mean your dead too...hmmm! (way before the Ali G thing)
Do you play live?
Yeah we've played London, Manchester, Liverpool and all over the Midlands. We also did a mini tour of Barcelona and were on Catalonia TV (Twice!) The last gig of the tour came to an abrupt end after the vocalist could not stand up due to much strong drinking - Party on Spain!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Yeah, we've been about since 1996 and only now can our underground followers finally get hold of our tooonz! Technology has some benefits for sure....but i still like to grow my own Peas etc
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Er..not again!!!!
