Jamie and I have known each other for several years. One day he was talking about his experience as a vocalist. I told him about Whereabouts Underground (my recording project). We decided to work together as a band, Southland Yankee. Jamie's unique vocal stylings have been and continue to be a welcome addition to the project and I'm very pleased with the work we've done as Southland Yankee.
Why this name?
Jamie's from Pennsylvania. When he came to Georgia, he got hassled a lot by local "good ole boys" for being from the north. I'm from Georgia and have had much the same experience for not following the rules. The name 'Southland Yankee' is a logical extension of that.
Do you play live?
Jamie and I have both played live quite a bit with other, separate projects. But Southland Yankee is a recording band, part of Whereabouts Underground.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It gives independent artists a great chance to have their music heard.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Would you?
Your influences?
Jamie- Lou Reed, Bob Dylan
Mark- Collective Soul, Uriah Heep, Nickelback
Anything else...?
We hope you enjoy listening to us on Soundclick. We've just completed our debut CD, "Still Of The Day" and we're looking forward to starting our second CD.
