Why this name?
The name is quite well-known, especially in Hungary, where it has an additional historical meaning.
Do you play live?
We often play live, mostly in Hungary. In the near future we would like to play in other European countries.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Yes, totally. We use it for distributing our music all over the world. Our two demo albums are downloadable freely from the official Sub Rosa hompage. www.subrosa-online.com
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Not yet.
Band History:
Sub Rosa was formed in the hot summer of 2002. The founding members were László Gyurina (guitar), Miklós Bacskai (bassguitar), Ádám Balogh (percussion) and Lídia Markovits (vocals). Before getting together, we all had played in cover bands and now our intention was to create our original, own musical style. When the band was completed, we started to write new songs, organizing concerts and in October 2002 we recorded a demo including three songs, called “Undiscovered”. We had influences of Rammstein, Metallica, Ignite, Guano Apes, Skunk Anansie, etc., and our music was a softer mixture of these different styles with female vocals. We liked to play hard music and we also could play melodic songs. But we had musical and personal difficulties within the band, so at the end of 2002 the guitarist and bassguitarist left the Sub Rosa. We (Ádám, the drummer and Lídia, the singer/guitarist) started to search for new members. In June 2002 we found a very talented guitarist, Zsolt Garamvölgyi, and a few weeks later we came across a young female bassguitarist, Csenge Tóth. They joined us and Sub Rosa was ready to play again. We wrote a couple of new songs with the help of the new members, and our music has changed a lot. Zsolt’s refined guitar solos and savage riffs have become dominant beside the powerful drum and dynamic bass themes, and the vocal parts could come to the front even more.During the autumn of 2003 we played in several places at Budapest. Since we wanted to make a better material, at the end of 2003 we recorded five new songs in Tom-Tom Studio/Hungary, the demo was named “Seven One” (downloadable from our site www.subrosa-online.com). We are standing excited before the upcoming summer when we are going to play at the biggest festivals of Hungary (Wanted Festival, Hegyalja Festival, etc) and hopefully conquer new audiences for our music.
