Redgloam is an electronic music artist drom Seattle, WA, USA. She began experimenting with music at the young age of 3, when all she had was a microphone and a tape recorder. Soon, the talent progressed when she developed an ear for mixing on a karaoke machine which she used to dub and sample sounds and beats. 15 years later this has morphed into electronic music experimentation.
Why this name?
The name "Redgloam" comes from the colour 'red' and 'gloam' which is synonymous for 'twilight'. Imagine a beautiful red twilight on a planet not too near our own...
Do you play live?
Redgloam does not play live and has no plans in the near future for any live appearances as an electronic music artist. I wouldn't mind if a DJ were to spin oen of my tunes somewhere though.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has changed the music industry a lot. The mp3 format gives a good way for under acknowledged artists to find their way out of the dark. 15 Years ago we would never had this much music at our fingertips. There is a whole new world out there of music to explore and enjoy and more artists have more control over their digital music than ever before.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Probably.. I make music just for fun, but If a label wanted to pick some of my stuff up, I wouldn't mind. But I'm not in any hurry. Music making is stress relief, but if someone wanted it, I would probably hand it over because I feel that would signify positive personal growth, and would be happy to share with others on a more grand scale.
Band History:
Nothin'.. just always loved music and wanted to make my own. I have a lot of ideas and thoughts inside me that I need to get out of my mind somehow, I have an urge to share it and be free of the creativity inside that torments me, ;)
Your influences?
Musical influences specifically for the music style that I tend to stylistically migrate to each time would probably be Amon Tobin, Bill Laswell, Future Sound of London, Coldcut... there's probably more artists that have influenced me in other ways but those are the ones that I felt most matched my style.
Favorite spot?
Not telling, its a special, secret place :-)
Equipment used:
Acid Pro 50, Sound Forge 8, Steinberg Wavelab, FL Studio 5, some VST and DXI stuff & plug-ins
Anything else...?
Music is a fundamental aspect of every individual's life, somehow. Its an important part of us all. I hope my music is somehow able to fill someone's void out there, as it has done for myself.
