Done with the commercial... now back to the interview.
The best way to discribe our sound is this. We sound like Nine Inch Nails and Maryln Manson mixed together and then run over by Tool and HIM. Our actual band name is Edible Clowns and the Gentle Fracture. We know it's long but we like it so get used to it. Most people think of me (Ash) as Edible Clowns and Nathan as Gentle Fracture. Though that was not the intention neither of us has a problem with it.
Why this name?
I made the dreadful mistake of watching Stephen King's IT, Killer Clowns from Outer Space, and Interveiw with a Vampire all in the same week. The first two on the same day. Our original band Red Tear Shed broke up and we were trying to come up with another name and those three movies just kept on coming to mind. Thus the name Edible Clowns was born under which we used for awhile, then we switched to "Gentle Fracture", but I really liked the Edible Clowns name and Nathan really liked the Gentle Fracture name so now we are Edible Clowns and the Gentle Fracture... remember it... live by it.
Do you play live?
We played live as Red Tear Shed but have not done so as Edible Clowns and the Gentle Fracture. We plan on playing live again some day, but no time soon... we are mostly just a studio band.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
This is a difficult question actually. It revolutionized the whole industry, and wether you fight against it or work with it, you can't ignore it. I prefer mp3s actually because they give us a way to get heard without costing our listeners anything, but we still offer things on the album that you just don't get in the mp3s. We don't really care about the money, we just want to be heard by as many people as possible.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We are not against it, but we don't play live so it is hard to find a lable willing to back us. If there is ever 1000 people that really enjoy our music we will be extremly happy. I don't care if we make a dime out of the music, we just love making it. We are not really all that focused on touring or playing venues. We would rather write and record as much new music as we can. I don't like the idea of big brother controlling what we write or making us stick to one type of music nor do I like the idea of loosing the rights to any of our music. We are also leaning toward movie music at this time. We just finished the score to Awaken the Dead and loved it.
Band History:
For more information regarding this go to the Bio link at www.edibleclowns.net. However, here is the quick low down though.
Purple Fish begat Psi which begat Red Tear Shed which begat EdibleClowns which begat Gentle Fracture. And now we are known as... you got it... Edible Clowns and the Gentle Fracture. I have been playing music off and on since I was 4 and it is the only thing I am truelly happy doing. Nathan has been playing at least as long as I have known him and that is a very long time. He plays by ear and I took piano lesons for 8 years. The rest is pretty boring, but you can look up Ashkon Stone at www.imdb.com for more info.
