Fueled by melodies that stick and the harmonic sensibilities of the 60s and 70s, The Privates craft their own relevant, modern interpretation of eclectic rock. Leaving behind drum loops, sequencers and samplers in favor of a hands-on performance philosophy, The Privates create polished pop-rock that moves from stripped down acoustic numbers to growling guitar-driven sonic chaos without ever leaving the path of well-crafted, well-performed songs. While trading lead vocal responsibilities around the group, The Privates always create their songs with hands, strings, wood, electricity and soul.
Why this name?
It was the funniest one on the list we thought we could actually get away with.
Do you play live?
We play live around with Dallas/Ft. Worth/Denton area. Love playing live, but hate the hoops new bands have to jump through. Best gig so far was the 4th of July at Club Dada in Dallas.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It provides a new distribution model that helps grass roots music movements. Plus, you can record and release material on your own schedule.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Probably not. I'd stay with a smaller or independant label where I had a little more of a say and a personal touch.
Band History:
Born in the Fall of 2002, The Privates emerged through forces of chance and inertia. It was chance that brought Dan Garvin (Bass, Vocals, Guitars) and Rick Carruth (Guitars, Vocals, Bass, Percussion) together at the same workplace. It was an irresistible inertia that led them to form The Privates with Rick’s former band mate and longtime song-writing partner, Leigh Johnson (Vocals, Guitars, Keyboards, Bass, Percussion). Finding Tim Kleszynski (Drums, Percussion) completed the package and launched The Privates on their journey.
