Bolsa de Papas emerges from the Iowa State University campus as a band on a mission. The mission is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone who will listen. Priorities is Bolsa de Papas' debut release and proves that ska is not strictly a coastal genre. Midwestern ska is defined by this 9 member band from Ames, IA.
Why this name?
"At first we didn't even have a general clue what our name meant. We were just sitting at food service one day and Scott [Larsen, percussionist] looks at us totally serious and says, 'How about Bolsa de Papas?' We all started laughing hysterically. I guess it means 'bag of potatoes' in Spanish, or something."

As time went on, the band has assigned meaning to the once silly name. Although they may debate over the meaning of its name, band members have found a common purpose.

"OK, you see, the potatoes represent each one of us as people," Bradley said jokingly.

"We're all buried under the ground in sin until God picks us out of the ground and cleans us off and cuts off all of our warts and stuff. The Bolsa represents the church, holding us all together, or something."
Do you play live?
We LOVE to play live anywhere we can. We've been known to drive over 2 hours one way to play a VERY small show! Our favorite places to play are: Ottumwa, oSKAloosa, Des Moines, Ames, and anywhere else that has fans like these places do!
If you make it big..?
Bolsa de Papas isn't striving to make it big, we just want to expose people to God's Love and share the Good News of His gift of eternal life. I can't deny a record deal would be nice, but our number one Priority is sharing God's love through SKA!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Bolsa de Papas has received 95% of it's promotion from the Internet. I feel that it is the number one way for small bands to get their music out there. I think it has improved the music industry. MP3 is a great technology that provides many benefits to music fans and creates a new market for music!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It would have to be discussed with all 9 of our members. It depends on the conditions.
Band History:
Bolsa de Papas started in the '97-'98 school year and have been playing together for 3 years now. They have recorded one CD and hope to continue playing together for quite a while.
