Break From Society combines the sweet Jamaican beats of the roots era and Dub mixed with modern day sounds of hip hop and punk rock. Their first LP release, 4-20, was influenced by the small border town of Calexico and the different musical styles they combine to create the BFS style that is influenced by artists like Bob Marley, The Cool Ruler, Sublime, LBDAS, Half Pint, the Doors, and Snoop Dog. Grown out of Southern California, Break From Society has been together since 2000 and since then have grown to become a headlining act that has performed in major reggae festivals and house parties along California and throughout Baja Mexico. Why this name?
we were all in high school, and we would take breaks from society when we got together and smoke,,,so we decided to call the band BREAK FROM SOCIETY....
Do you play live?
At the time we are finishing our first full length CD, we have been recording it for a while now,,hoping to be done with it in the following month, before that we had a few shows in our hometown, been doing some shows up north in santa cruz, recently we played at a few venues in san diego "CANES" "BLIND MELONS" and coming up this thursday sept 23rd..we play at "DREAM STREET" ,,its always fun to share the stage with your friends ,,its the best!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
music is music I respect everyone who creates it,,all music is good in its own unique way,,the internet helps you promote your music when you are an up and coming band,,I think that as a musician you create music because you love do in it,so its a good way to spread your sound...some people wont agree because they say one has to pay to listen to someone elses music,,,well i think that first of all if your playing for money than its no good the essence of creating music is lost,,I mean yeah you need money to survive and to keep playing m,,but I believe that in the end true fans will support you by buying your music knowing their helping you out..just play from the heart god takes care of the rest,,no need to be spreading negative enrgy!!! so back to the point,,mp3s are good they spread ur music ,,who cares if its free,,,
