Crush The Soul is a hard rock band based in Philadelphia, Pa. The music is powerful, dark, and melodic. We employ a heavy rhythm section with drums, bass, and rhythm guitar. We also have lead guitar and vocals.
Why this name?
The band name came about from reading something that spoke about how the decay and decline of the world crushes the soul. Since our music tends to be dark, Crush The Soul sounded appropriate.
Do you play live?
Currently we are not playing live. The band is currently working on new music which hopefully will be released sometime in 2005.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has really turned the music industry on its head. At one time the major recording labels dominated the industry. They would decide who would get promoted and who wouldn't. With the internet, bands like us can turn are backs on the majors and go it alone.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
You can never say never. If the right opportunity at the right time came up, it would have to be considered.
Band History:
Crush The Soul began to take form back near the end of 2001. When Chris Apostolu decided on the concept of Crush The Soul, he wanted to create something that he would have control over. The direction the band goes in, all of the creative and business aspects that are involved would be his decision to make.

"In the corporate world, many of the things that affect us are out of our control. With CTS, I am able to see results from the hard work that I put into it. This isn’t necessarily true in the business world."

In 2004, Chris released a demo CD entitled, One, where all the instruments, vocals, engineering, packaging, etc. were done by him. "It was a lot of work but the knowledge I gained was incredible. It really gave me an idea of all aspects of what is involved in the lifecycle of CD production." While working on the CD, Mitchell Staska, an accomplished musician and friend, became interested in the project. They decided to try forming a band and do some shows. Currently they are working on new material and hope to put out another CD in the near future.
Your influences?
The musical influences that have shaped the music the band writes ranges from one extreme to the other. The more you listen to different music the greater the depth you can pull from. The important thing for us is to maintain our own sound in the process.
Favorite spot?
Philadelphia is incredible and not just because the band is based here. There are a ton of venues to go to and the music community is large.
