"Dear David,
Thanks for submitting the material for the evaluation.
WOW - great job David! These songs are as strong as anything on the radio in the rap genre.
All of the bases are covered - music, lyrics, rapping, beats, etc... I am very impressed.
The lyric "loose lips sink ships" ("Livin' In The Jungle") made me smile, as that's a common expression for one of my favorite Uncles. It made me think of him. So that was cool. :-)
I only have good things to say about your music. You are doing a great job and if you keep working hard to get it out there from Colorado to the world, the sky is the limit..."
-Eugene Foley of Foley Entertainment Inc., consultant/advisor to over 40 Gold/Platinum Record & 3 Grammy winning artists/producers. One of the most respected advisors/authors in the music industry, evaluating Block Scholars songs; "Livin' In The Jungle", "Never Repented" & "Lyrical Extermination". www.FoleyEntertainment.com 10/13/09-
"There is some knowledge you cannot get in school, it comes from experience. Block Scholars use lessons learned from their personal trials and tribulations to teach the masses through their music. Having blessed the raw funky production of Slimdog on previous collabs, MCs NOBULL and 2mental officially united with the producer in 2008. The result is a group that hopes to use their allegorical street tales as an instrument of change. The head-nodding beats are a nice bonus."

"The Block Scholars are a hardcore Rap outfit hailing from Colorado Springs. For us, they really came out of left field, and we were pleasantly surprised when their music ended up in our in box last week.
So far what we have heard is a wide array of various songs, in various styles, all put together extremely properly.
There is a lot you need to know about these hustle hard motherf***ers (including a dope Podcast they do), So we will be unveiling it over the course of this month, in fragments.
But for now..."
-THE COLORADO RAP REPORT 3/16/09-
"Music Comments: David Bell, Jr. bangs out high tech and an instrumental foundation on his large cd. It's about the rough and tumble hustle of the street, full of harsh thoughts and conscious hip hop chops. The ep has deep and timely lyrics about keeping it real. The highlights on these tracks occurs when he gets into the musical quality of the melodies, with techno backbeats and deep vocals to back his message...We look forward to receiving more tunes where this came from!"

Do you play live?
-I don't, but my homie NOBULL has done shows. I just produce. We will be doing shows REAL soon. My special moments are when Slimdog Productions instrumental, "Crunk It Up Man", got selected for "NBC/UNIVERSAL SPORTS" library in June 2009, Block Scholars were selected in "URB MAGAZINE'S NEXT 1000 " artists for 2009, selected in the final 100 artists for "URBAN MUSIC AWARDS AMERICA'S NEXT URBAN SUPERSTAR" in 2009 and I hit #1 on both the Jazz and Smooth Jazz Charts on Soundclick at THE SAME time November 15th, 2005 with the song, "Majestic Son". Another moment was when the song, "Dear Momz ft. 2mental & Jewelz", entered CASHBOX
MAGAZINE'S TOP 10 INDIE PICK the week of November 25th, 2007 and hit #1 on their charts the week of Dec. 12th, 2007. With God's blessing, hopefully many more honors are to come!!!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
-You reach a worldwide audience for alot less than hand promo or word of mouth. You can reach an audience of millions with just one song and a click of the keyboard or mouse...The internet IS the future for artists, indie and major alike. The major labels are starting to find that out now.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
-Yes, if the deal is right. Our goal is to help get Colorado on the map music wise. I believe it is an untapped market with unlimited potential. We were invited by Warner Brothers VP of Artist Development & Touring to participate in a project given only to 30 artists to send material to major labels & booking agencies to help sign talented Hip Hop artists. The list is the VP's private personal contacts that he has aquired over the years...
Band History:
Just started doin my thang in 2004 and I am getting better...I kind of see myself as a vacuum for musical styles and sounds. I'm just trying to take it all in...
Your influences?
-All kinds...Mostly R&B, Hip Hop and Jazz. Groups and people like: The Deele, Guy, Mint Condition, Ready For The World, Mtume, SOS Band, Cameo, Parliament-Funkadelic, The Temptations, Jackson 5, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Dazz Band, ConFunkshun, Ohio Players, Tupac, Biggie Smalls, A Tribe Called Quest, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Special Ed, Slick Rick, Bob Marley, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Herbie Hancock, Loose Ends, Robert Plant, The Police, Boston, Van Halen...You get tha' picture. I love the samples that people like to put on beats, but if your song becomes HOT, and someone famous wants to use it, then you have to go through the red tape to get the sample released. I like doing original mostly because I don't have to worry about that. That is ONE less step to really getting your ish out there...
Favorite spot?
-I like many places: Paris, London, Japan, Mexico, South America...To travel the world is my REAL job...for now. LOL
Equipment used:
-Our creativity. We have or are using; E-jay Hip Hop 5 (don't laugh, I make that program WORK to its potential and you see what's happening with our group), Steinberg programs (which one you ask?), Fantom Xa Keyboard, Numark USB Turntable, Numark NS7 and a MPC 5000.
Anything else...?
-THANK YOU FOR THA' LOVE AND SUPPORT...
...OF COURSE, I'm always going for the #1, but I rather have 20 or 30 top 10's than just that 1 #1...Don't wanna be one of those "one hit wonders". CONSISTENCY is the name of the game. Keep striving to be that number 1...
MC's and Beatsmith's keep puttin' out them bangaz!!!

'The Council' is Blackjack (Louisiana), Madison (NYC) and NOBULL (Colorado Springs). They are talking about the hustle needed in this game, dissin' all these fake rappers that are in the game of Hip Hop right now. Has an Old School feel to it.
