"Alas, Poor Yorick" is a four piece indie-rock band from North County, St. Louis, MO.
Why this name?
Being literary freaks, the band has gone through numerous names, finally settling one everyone SHOULD recognize.
Do you play live?
We love to play live. It's feels great to perform to people.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
For smaller bands like ourselves, the mp3-internet-band relationship is a great tool to help yourself get noticed. but for larger names who don't need the recognition, I can see how it would be damaging to the label, because it is what they base thier market on. And giving it away for free, from a large label, just isn't good for business.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
In a heart beat. Bands want recognition. Plain and simple. They want their music heard. Or else they would be doing what they're doing. And the easiest way to be heard is to sign to a major label.
Band History:
The history of "Alas, Poor Yorick" goes back about seven years ('97-'98). It started as a collaboration between the Joslin Bros., Todd and Eric, and Todd's high school friend, Tim Von Cloedt. Eric was orignally going to play bass guitar, Todd was going to be rhythm guitar, and Tim was going to be lead guitar. After a few changes were made, the had all settled on a different line-up. Eric-lead guitar, Todd-bass guitar, Tim-rhythm guitar, and a couple different drummers. Highs school passed, college came, the band was on short hiatus. While at college Eric met Greg Kettinger, who was also a musician. The the band regrouped, Tim & Eric were still on guitar, but now Greg was on bass guitar, and Todd has become proficient as a drummer. Which is how the lie-up is to this day.
Your influences?
HA! The musical influences from the band almost cover every aspect of music that there is. While the band lends inself to forms of rock, there are glimpses of different musical variations.
