Hi! I'm Anthony. This is only information about me for now. I just moved to the Minneapolis/St Paul area and am looking to get together with some experimental and talented individuals to play music. If you're interested in a drummer, or guitar player to collaborate in a jazz/fusion/funk/jam band, send me an e-mail at... arrig002@umn.edu

Here's some info about me...

I've been playing guitar and writing music for over 10 years, and, although I still practice and write music on guitar, I've devoted the past few years almost exclusively to playing drums.

I've played hundreds of shows as a drummer and guitar player, and am looking for intellectually curious and sonically innovative musicians in the Mlps/St Paul area to play out, or just jam with.

All of the sample tunes here were written, or arranged (or both) by me. I will rotate them relatively often, so If you like what you hear, check back later for something new.

I have many originals, and music charts for most of them, but I would also like to get into a new improvisational situation, or play other people's original compositions as well.
Why this name?
The band name I have posted here is a take-off on two old band names that were "Goodby to Gravity" and "The Elastiq Quartet". It was really the first thing that came into my head when I had to pick a name for this site. In my experience, the job of picking a band name is much like the boulder that Sisyphus was eternally condemned to push up the hill only to have it roll back down. No matter what name you choose, or how hard you work at coming up with one, just when it seems like you've found the right one, just when you're almost to the top of the hill, it all comes crashing down again... Camus said that Sisyphus characterizes the dilemma of modern man. That just goes to show he never tried to come up with a band name!
Your influences?
I have a very open mind and listen all types of music -- Rock, Jazz, Classical, Bluegrass, Hip-hop, Latin, etc. Overall, I've been influenced by everyone from John Coltrane, Michel Camilo, Dave Brubeck, and Chick Corea, to DJ Shadow, The Meters, Greyboy, Prince, Massive Attack, and many, many others.

What might be better, though, is to tell you what I'm listening to now, and maybe that will say more about the musical space I'm in these days... Grant Green, moe., Charlie Hunter, ulu, Dave Holland Quintet, Herbie Hancock (Headhunters, Thrust era), Medeski Martin and Wood, Corduroy, Stanton Moore, Keller Williams, Cubanismo!, Chick Corea, Soulive, Lettuce, etc.

My drum influences are Jimmy Cobb, Joe Morelleo, Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, Dennis Chambers, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Carter Beauford, and David Garibaldi among others.
Equipment used:
Drums: I have a custom made, maple, Baltimore Drums (now called Maryland Drums) kit with a natural finish (the kit in the picture on the right). I also have a Yamaha Custom Maple kit in a flat cranberry finish. My cymbals are mostly Zildjian, with some other various, individual cymbals.

Guitars: I have a Guild slim hollow body jazz guitar. I also have my cherished Gibson Lucille. I have an early '70’s Fender Super Reverb amp with the 4 10's, an Alvarez acoustic guitar, and various other guitars and instruments.
