Opening slots for the Goo Goo Dolls, Tonic, The Bloodhound Gang, and Goldfinger; songs in major motion picture soundtracks, and a retro Vegas-style tourbus brings female-fronted new rock/dance band Simon Stinger to a town near you.
Why this name?
We were called The Heathers and the day we were on our way to a BAM interview we got a letter from a band called The Heathers out of Cleveland, OH...they already had a CD out - we at the time had 7" vinyl. So we gave up the name. We drove to the interview nameless, and a cement truck went driving by the other way w/ the name Simon Stinger on it. Somehow it fit and that's the name we gave at the interview.
Do you play live?
Favorite towns are our hometowns of Concord & San Francisco, also our "lucky" towns Reno & Las Vegas & special favorites like Visalia, Mammoth, Los Angeles, Seattle, & Eureka. San Francisco is a great scene to cut your teeth on - it's a tough audience - if you can get a draw here, you can get one anywhere. The suburban areas are good for the ego.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Exposure. It exposes you to people who would have never heard you. The charting system is great because the higher you get up the charts, the more people have access to your music, and the people who dig it become hardcore fans.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, if it was right, simply because we could reach and spread out even further. Right now we're reaching a lot of people and trying to keep up with it.
Band History:
San Francisco's most delicious and delirious new rock'n'roll owns a fresh and fierce sound that is undeniable. This 6-piece group which combines devilish hooks with a danceable spy flare, is spreading its contagious fever everywhere. On February 14, 2000 they released their second CD entitled "Devil On My Mind" to many anxious supporters. Beginning on February 18, 2000 Simon Stinger's song "Fringe Authority" was heard nationwide in the Miramax film "Diamonds" starring Dan Aykroyd, Kirk Douglas, Lauren Bacall, and Jenny McCarthy. Simon Stinger also appear as extras in the movie.Founded by singer Alicia Perrone and bassist Victor James in October '95,Simon Stinger quickly became known for wildly entertaining live shows. Fronted by Perrone's remarkable vocal skills, Simon Stinger delivers songs exciting and reckless. In 1996, the band's debut release, a 7" vinyl on their own Muscle Car Records, received over 150 college radio adds. In November '97, the band released their first CD "Private Collection," with more fun and furious new wave anthems. DJ's, reviewers, and audiences of all ages love this band, sharing the sentiment that Simon Stinger's music is so contagious they can't take it out of their players. Simon Stinger's HiBrow Cabaretshows made quite a splash around the northwest in 1999. These were full productions headlined by the band with local drag queens opening up each show. After a bay area debut, they took their HiBrow Cabaret (feather boas, wigs, and parasols-a-plenty) on tour to LA and Portland. With a reputation for being chameleons and rarely looking or performing the same way twice, supporters wait to see what they'll come up with next. Simon Stinger's charismatic stage presence led Jagermeister to award the band a sponsorship in May, 1999. Top-of-the-line endorsements soon followed from Dean Markley, MJ Guitars, Line 6 Amps, and Remo. This notable stagepresence was again rewarded when Simon Stinger's unique and intoxicating video for their cover of Devo's "Girl U Want" won a showcase last December when screened for music industry professionals in Hollywood. Their online presence is flourishing as well, and being favorites at MP3.com, the band was chosen to perform on MP3's Music & Technology touropening for The Goo Goo Dolls and Tonic last November. They are currently in pre-production for their third CD.
