Arconna

"Arconna", founded in mid-2001, was originally a two man group determined only to make good music that fit our likes. "A Sad Dream" was made this way and it stood in the top 50 at former JavaMusic for nearly six months--a surprising feat for a bunch of guys not intending to go anywhere with it and with no prior knowledge in the making of electronic music. Eventually the two broke apart and I (Shaun) decided to continue with it. I mixed several other tracks and was forced to stop due to a long bout with cancer. Since then I have struggled continuously with a compatibility issue between my XK-6 and my computer and hopefully in the near future can get a better designed computer for my music needs. For now I use a variety of programs such as MTV Music Generator, FruityLoops, and Ejay, among other mini-programs for various effects. I hope to take up the music again and churn out better quality tunes.
Why this name?
I'm not sure exactly how I came up with "Arconna". At some point in my youth, I was heavily into playing RPG's with friends and not following any of the rules in the books. I used the spelling "Arcana" for a character and for some reason changed it to "Arconna" and have kept with it from there. A geeky way to a nifty name.
Do you play live?
I have yet to play live, but a new friendship with a sound mixer and designer may provide a chance to start really churning out some good stuff.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet lets everyone get their music out there. It's so hard these days to get anywhere in music unless you have some sort of look or can really blow away and audience without blinking. Now with the internet, all those people not looking to be super famous can have their msuic listened to and enjoyed. Look at trance[]control. They started out just wanting to make music and are really starting to take off, something completely unexpected for them. And it is all because of the internet and the hundreds of thousands of fans out there. The internet fills the industry with new talent!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
God yes if someone wanted to do such a thing. Who wouldn't?
Your influences?
I think my trek into trance music began with trance[]control after hearing a Starcraft remix of their great piece "Atomic Dance Explosion". Since then I've been hooked. I'm a huge fan of Lagoon and Aura, as well as Alphazone, Oceanlab, Paul Van Dyke, and numerous other famous artists out there. djFremen is one of my newest favorites along with DJ Trax. I'd say they influence me in that their music really has affected my life, however corny that may sound. They create such beautiful music, even the stuff not in my proposed genre. It's great art.
Favorite spot?
Well, I think my favorite big city would have to be Seattle, even though I haven't been there in a long time. Favorite spot is probably in front of my computer or out of the house somewhere entertaining. I just move about as best I can.
Equipment used:
Currently I'm only using Fruityloops because a change to WinXP created some problems with Ejay and I choose not to use MTV Music Generator much. I have an E-MU XK-6 keyboard, but unfortunately compatibility issues have prevented me from putting it to good use. A friend of mine does a lot of sound mixing and design and I hope that perhaps we'll get together and really put some beautiful stuff up. I do hope to get a new computer within the next few months that will be specifically designed for my music.
