Why this name?
The truth about Shrimpanzee:
Dan came up with it. It means part shrimp, part chimpanzee. all life originated in the ocean. modern life is all about the chimps. see the white house. (JM)
John Moore took the name and used it for some of his solo stuff he was working on with Joe Blanchard. John told Dan about his idea to get a band together around some of these song ideas and expand (2003). Kevin Wright (was previously in a band called Nefarious with Dan and Chuck "Motor City" Moberg) was brought in on drums, the set list was expanded to include some wacky covers and Shrimpanzee's first live shows were played. The songs mutated a bit, more songs were made with everyone collaborating. Personnel shifted between 2004-2009 with breaks in between. In 2010 John and Dan decided to end Shrimpanzee. So Shrimpanzee up to 2003 was Joe Blanchard and John Moore's solo stuff with a name Dan made up. John pitched his idea to Dan and that was the beginning of Shrimpanzee the BAND and the concept. Drummers were switched and Dave "Grave" Hollingshead (Repulsion, Pub Life) took the reigns on the trap set. In 2007 the band opened for Claude Coleman Jr.'s (WEEN) solo band Amandla in Detroit, billed as "The Rogue Mammal". This show featured super-disquise-genius Andy Turpen (Dissonance, MuSH, Ugly Radio Rebellion, AET). Shrimpanzee seemed complete! Shortly after a sweet St. Patty's Day gig Dan moved to Asheville, NC (Andy to Atlanta) and Shrimpanzee was defunked by John and Dan stating; "Shrimpanzee will not continue without both of us". When Dan moved back to Michigan a couple years later Shrimpanzee got together a couple of times so bills could be paid (part of the reason for demise). By now Andy had moved to Atlanta and it was 3-piece city again. The spark was gone and it seemed the Ethereal Being had withdrew his blessings as Shrimpanzee tried to cash in for two-bits..test failed. John and Dan agreed to stop it with the Shrimpanzee already and have moved on. Shrimpanzee without one or the other.... (indeed E Minor and Hiram have solo projects/bands see: John Moore/Nomeus Music or Trick of Shadow or the Gifted Program-Andy), well it would be like a squid with one tentacle. We apologize to our fan in Sri Lanka.

Live=yes; Anywhere. We likey. When the Great Space Coaster, Welcome Back Kotter and The Muppets played together live at the Hick n' Spit!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has leveled the proverbial playing field which means that Lady Gaga's MP3 is just as worthless as our MP3!!!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes but we would still be totally punk rock.
