Built on the tradition of metal's greatest from Megadeth and Iron Maiden to Iced Earth and Nevermore; A Lower Deep remains true to the spirit of true metal while bringing an original and modern edge.
Why this name?
A Lower Deep comes from the epic poem Paradise Lost by John Milton. The passage reads: Which way I fly is Hell; myself am Hell,/ And in the lowest depth a lower deep / Still threatening to devour me opens wide / To which the Hell I suffer seems a Heaven.
Do you play live?
A Lower Deep is made of four musicians who all have more than a decade of live and recording experience. Members have played with band on Metal Blade Records and others, and traveled extensively. A Lower Deep though a new project began in late 2001 brings the wide experience of all members together playing a dynamic live show.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It can be very helpful in exposing bands to listeners who might not hear of them otherwise. But there are dangers that too much free music will make in financially difficult for new or smaller bands to exist and continue. So long as MP3's are used as a promotion tool it is great, but when complete albums are downloaded for free it can really hurt a bands chances.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It would depend on the amount of freedom they were willing to give and the amount of promotion they were willing to support with.
Band History:
After more than a decade of tolling away in the southern US where there is little to no scene for 'real' metal, the four musicians of A Lower Deep happened upon each other. A Lower Deep gave each the vehicle to persue their individual vision while encompassing it in a whole of intensity, creativity, and passion. Built on the tradition of metal's greatest from Megadeth and Iron Maiden to Iced Earth and Nevermore; A Lower Deep remains true to the spirit of true metal while bringing an original and modern edge. With the October, 2002, release of the new CD, the band is already receiving great reviews, appears on a number of compilations, and can be heard on many web radio stations If you are into true metal check out A Lower Deep.
