"HEIDE is not actually a band. Like many industrial acts throughout history, a bare minimum number of artists have produced the end result from their combined work, in this case one. Tanya Anne Maria is the artist behind these mysterious sounds. You thought you knew what industrial music is, or what it's supposed to be. You thought you'd already heard everything unusual, unique, and new. You thought the sound of a glass crashing to a cement floor, shattering into pieces represented only the destructive act of breaking the glass-- and never found beauty nor entertainment from such a sound. Along comes HEIDE. Maria will shatter your image of what you thought was real through the systematic onslaught of intentional sound. Brace yourself, because this is going to be a memorable experience, whether you enjoy it or not."

Why this name?
Like so many other significant artistic breakthroughs for so many other artists, this particular gem simply came to me quite suddenly out of the ether, and it somehow fit just right.
"Heide" is the German word for "pagan" (lit. "heathen). Maria was quite pleased with the combined references to Germany (Fatherland of Industrial), and paganism (Maria's own religious affiliation could be considered pagan). And the fact that the literal translation is "heathen", which is a somewhat coarser, crasser word for pagan, sings praise to the feel of the HEIDE sound, which tends to be edgy and even sometimes startling.

Do you play live?
HEIDE has never played a live show to date. When this changes, you will find information here on shows.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has had a broad, far-reaching, dramatic effect on *every* industry, and practically every aspect of our culture.
The changes in the music industry might include the widespread, bulk pirating of recorded art it has enabled.
It might also include sites like Soundclick, in which a revolutionary approach to releasing new music has been developed.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I have a label I am considering signing to.
I will let you know if there are any updates in this regard.

Band History:
HEIDE's first release was an ep called "badb", which came out in 2004.
Prior to that, Tanya was loosely involved in several other musical projects. "badb" was reproduced and distributed by hand (Maria's own hand) to a total of 5 chosen recipients.
No mass production was initiated, keeping the potential value of these original release ep's even higher than they would have otherwise been. In addition to this distribution, "badb" was released online, had songs featured on numerous internet radio stations, and had a song, "she should", included on a Kid Antrim Music compilation for distribution to interested radio stations throughout the US.
Next, later that year, HEIDE released "The Score" as a single only (the b-side was called "move it").
Then in 2005, HEIDE released "géill", the first full-length album, again to a small personal distribution, as well as online.
