Sam Adams
NEWS   I've uploaded my forthcoming EP, Assorted Sirens: Carmena Scripta Post Primo Anno Scholae. That means "song written after the first year of school"... all these songs are a year old, but that's okay. My friend Tom is putting it out on his label Pretty All Right Records, so check it out! http://www.prettyallright.com!!

I am Sam Adams and I play music.

Check out these other bands I was in:
The Asian Gang
The Schmatch Machine Collective
Why this name?
silly question.
Do you play live?
I play at coffee shops if I find time - I don't have a lot of time. At home in Fort Wayne, I play with my friend Brooks Frederickson. At school I play by myself (or with the Fuzzicians).
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it's important that we respect artists' opinions on downloaded music. I also think that many artists' opinions are based on incomplete facts and assumptions. My personal policy on downloading music is that I download the music and buy the disc if I like it. This is obviously a good thing, because I would have never discovered MANY artists whom I consider as main influences without the internet.
The mp3 has a lot of power, positive and negative. It's a huge balancing act between what's practical and illegal.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Not major... not unless they ask and don't expect much. I'm currently dealing with my good friend Tom and his new company Pretty All Right Records (http://www.prettyallright.com). I usually just put out my own stuff - hand it out for free. Pretty much everything is up on this website.
Band History:
I have always been playing music since I was very small. On the way to preschool my mom would put on a Beatles tape and we'd sing, eventually learning to take certain harmonies and hold them together even without the tape. Eventually when I was 7 I took up piano. Since then, I've taken up the guitar, bass, and the theremin, becoming semi-proficient in all of them. In high school I was involved in a couple bands: in my sophomore and junior years, I was in The Asian Gang (http://www.soundclick.com/theasiangang) and in the spring of senior year I was in the Schmatch Machine Collective (http://www.soundclick.com/theschmatchmachinecollective). I am currently majoring in jazz piano at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, but I intend on releasing plenty of free music in the future, on top of the two albums I did solo in high school.
Your influences?
I'll go in the order that I discovered these artists:
The Beatles, Todd Rundgren, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Steely Dan, Neil Young, Beck, Frank Zappa, Jeff Buckley, Tim Buckley, The Flaming Lips, The Boredoms, The Microphones, Can, John Coltrane, Steve Reich, Sufjan Stevens
Favorite spot?
not yet..
Equipment used:
Fostex 16 track, Yamaha P120 digital piano, two Yamamha guitars, a crappy Crate guitar amp, a monster of a Peavey keyboard/everything amp, Korg MS2000R synth, Big Briar theremin, ProCo Rat, Hammond Cougar Organ (Koogie)

I have been pretty fortunate.
