Double Forte
NEWS   What is Fusion?

In the mid 60's open minded Jazz musicians were blending modal Jazz and free Jazz with elements of pop music, like Funk, Soul, and Rock. They were also bringing in the influences of the music of other cultures like the Caribbean, South America and India. These players, many of who were from Europe and the UK were creating a new style that first was simply called Jazz/Rock, and in the 70's became known as Fusion.

The musicians responded to these changes, many developing virtuosic chops and the ability to play in odd time signatures.

To us the music of Double Forte is a summation, an extension of much of the history and tradition of U.S. music. We integrate what we feel are classic elements of U.S. music into a personal sound that showcases the backgrounds and strengths of the individual band members.

That same year the band was named, “Top Instrumental contemporary jazz group” with the tune, “Island Holiday.” Double Forte has been performing in and around Chicago for the last 6 years. Their CD and performances have been received favorably and they have started their own following which they hope will grow for years to come. They are looking forward to their 2nd CD project in 2004.

Band History:
In the spring of 1996, through the local music scene, the Chicago based Instrumental Rock band Double Forte was formed. Guitarist Eddie Kim, (who received his Bachelors degree in Jazz Studies from the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University) met drummer Dale Wilson, who graduated from Musicians Institute (P.I.T) in LA. Before the band was conceived, it was obvious that the two shared the same musical interests and goals. They both believed the music they had in mind was worth trying out live as well as a studio project. This led them to seek out a Bass Player and Keyboardist to complete the band.

Eddie brought into the band bassist Bob Pape, who studied at the Berklee School of Music in Boston and received his Bachelors degree in Music Education at Roosevelt University. The three of them decided to put together a handful of compositions, both originals and covers that would best express their identity.

After a few personnel changes, the band is now Eddie, Dale, Bob, and Indian keyboardist, Shyam Vai. Shyam brings with his years of playing experience in diverse music styles and a strong background of Indian Music.
