Band History:
An acronym formed by a grade 10 student of “The Islamic Foundation School” in Toronto, Canada during the school year of 2002-2003. “M.A.F.U.A” which stands for May Allah Forgive Us All was merely an approach to get the student himself, and his peers to pray for forgiveness from Allah, an attempt by a young Muslim to keep his Lord happy and aim for paradise. M.A.F.U.A started off as a simple name that would eventually die down but, Hasan (the emcee who goes under the alias “five-seven”; which symbolizes the five daily prayers Muslims have to pray everyday, in turn: Five times a day=5, Seven days a week=7) was persistent not to let that happen. From a clique of a couple of Muslims struggling to follow the deen to just another memory, the original intent of M.A.F.U.A seemed to die down for good. As time passed and five-seven grew older, matured, and learned from his wrong choices and rough experiences, one thing became very clear: M.A.F.U.A would be his only escape from all the wrong. Writing rhymes was a hobby since five-seven was very young, but it never really seemed possible for a “Desi”(South-Asian) and more-over, a Muslim youth whose path of life was much crooked to be accepted as a figure of influence in the community. With almost everything going down the drain it couldn’t really cause any more damage if he tried. The outcome was as expected, much hatred and much disrespect towards the whole M.A.F.U.A concept and five-seven. Slowly but surely, love was starting to show for M.A.F.U.A. With the little bit of support he had, five-seven continued to find ways where he could make M.A.F.U.A a universal call for forgiveness from the Lord through the art-form of hip-hop. Alhamdulilah now the tracks are being made slowly with the rugged lyrics most Muslims don’t really know how to accept but know are true. Insha-Allah in the near future the world shall see what a young struggling MUSLIM soldier is capable of. May Allah Forgive Us All!
