play lo-fi play hi-fi  Wheres My Cinderella
Phil Halliday is a multi-talented singer songwriter from the Toronto area.
Having had parents with an unsatisfiable itch to travel and perform,it only seemed right that Phil would grow up writing songs and making music from a huge variety of influences and genres.
Phil's live show is a great tribute to the c.d.'s and videos that he has released in the past almost fifteen years.
The influence of such renowned songwriters as Steve Earle,Neil young,Tom Petty, and Hank Williams to name only a few,is prominant in Phil's music but with an obvious originality that is unmistakably his own.
Be it live or recorded it's sure to satisfy.
Why this name?
I was looking for the right name and it was already mine so I used it.
Do you play live?
I live to play live.

I have played from the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto to the Bluebird cafe in Nashville Tennessee and a lot o' joints in between.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It sure is another great way to let people know you exist.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Show me the terms.I won't say never.
Band History:
Phil Halliday started playing live music professionally from the age of 13.
Cleaning ash trays and picking up emty beer bottles and whatever other odd jobs were available at the local clubs allowed Phil to be in the middle of the music scene in Canada.

Phil moved to Toronto to live on his own two months short of his 16th birthday. From there he began to meet other musicians in the local papers and soon after had a band that played everything from Robert Gordon to The Ramones.

By the time Phil was able to be in bars legally he had already been making a resonable living from various day jobs and music.
Now influenced by hitch hiking from coast to coast to coast playing acoustic guitar and singing for a lot of meals as well as a couple of serious relationships Phil started demoing the songs he was writing.

Shortly after finishing a four song demo Phil met Much Music's Bill Welychka, who at the time was Much's finest commercial editor with an itch to direct videos.
Phil and Bill went to work on a video for the song "Just Like Lovin' You" a Texas swing tune from Phil's demo that had "hit potential" according to Welychka.
He was right. It was nominated to second ballot for video of the year in 1991's C.C.M.A awards.

After that Phil had no problem opening doors that led to being signed to Sony Music in 1994 as a writer.
Sony also released some more of Phil's music world wide that led to chart success thanks to some great people in the radio scene.

Phil went on to release "I Can't Read Your Mind" the title track from his first full length independant c.d. to radio world wide as well as to C.M.T.and other "roots" music video format stations. The response was better than even Phil expected. Two more singles were released from that c.d. and then it was time to record again.

Into the studio again. This time with trusted and tested friend and engineer Jim Zolis.
What came out has been called some of the best Alt. Country/Roots Rock music in a long time by critics.
"Fifty First State Of Mind" was dedicated to the many people who died Sept.11.2001 in the tragic bombing of the World Trade Center towers in New York City.
"So many of us Canadians felt like it had just happened to us" said Halliday "We felt like the fifty first state all of a sudden."
The c.d. has yet to be shopped to labels because it's selling so well off the stage at Phil's live shows and from his philhalliday.com web site.

More recently Phil has been producing singer/songwriter Susan Latimer's debut c.d. as well as producing some demos for Jacques Goudreault that won a songwriting award for Goudreault in Nashville in 2001.

Whether you catch Phil live as a solo performer with just an acoustic guitar and harmonica or with his band or on video or c.d. you are sure to get a charge out of this dynamic singer/songwriter musician.
