Amy Squire are a group of musicians who miss the sound of classic rock and the rich, instrumental and vocal textures of 70s bands like Yes and Fleetwood Mac.
Amy Squire combines those qualities with the accessible sounds of modern female solo artists like Melissa Etheridge and Amanda Marshall.

Why this name?
We started as duo (lead singer, Heidi Moraresh and keyboardist Will Hare) and tried to go by the names Moraresh/Hare but no one could pronounce Heidi's name! We decided to create a composite of our two biggest influences: Heidi chose Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls and Will (that's me) chose Chris Squire of Yes - Amy Squire was born!
Do you play live?
We play live all over Toronto - 360, Reilly's, Reverb - but most recently played our first Stateside gig in Lexington, Kentucky, part of the Midwest Music Conference. Last year we also played Mel Lastman Square - that was a great stage to play on...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is starting to take the power from the record companies and let artists reach their public. What has to happen now is for the public to use the internet more frequently as a way of discovering new music and realize they don't have to pay for wildly over-priced CDs... The time is coming.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We would be very cautious. Why become an indentured slave to a major label and earn pennies on each of your CD sales? I'd prefer a smaller label that appeals to our specific audience... Which we're still looking for...
Band History:
Lead singer/guitarist, Heidi Moraresh and myself (Will Hare, keyboards, vocals) rehearsed for the first time in July of 1997. We realized we worked well together - Heidi's raw, folky style and my classically trained approach.
We performed this way for years, writing dozens of songs before realizing it was time to flesh the band out to a 5 piece - drums, bass and lead guitar had to be added.
We went through several musicians before deciding on our current lineup in July of 2001 - Eric Van on guitar/vocals, Dave Pauletto on bass and Enrico Ferrari on drums.
With a firm lineup, we started to gig regularly including a show at CFNY studios, at Mel Lastman Square, a TV appearance on Rogers Daytime and our CD release party at Reilly's this past summer.
"The Race is On" is our first CD and the song "Sometimes" received airplay on the Peak FM in Collingwood.
2003 has seen some huge changes for us. Dave left the band and has been replaced by Heather Stobo on bass and we have recently joined Danie Cortese Entertainment (www.daniecortese.com) who should help open up some great opportunities for the band.

Your influences?
The musical influences in this band are diverse but fall upon the two songwriters in the band, Heidi Moraresh and Will Hare.
Heidi is a big fan of Melissa Etheridge, Sarah Maclaclan, Stevie Nick and especially the Indigo Girls.
Will has a strong taste for Progressive Rock bands like King Crimson, The Moody Blues and his favorite, Yes but is also strongly influenced by Elton John.

Favorite spot?
That would be different for everyone in the band! Eric lived in Texas a long time; Enrico is from Verona, Italy but personally, I thought the Greek Islands were fantastic when I vacationed there.
Equipment used:
On keyboards, I use a Korg X-2 music workstation and a Roland JX-8P. Eric, our guitarist, uses a Roland pedal synthesizer for his guitar.
