L.I.E. was formed in 2000, and after many lineup changes and many practices, began playing out in 2002. They recorded their EP, "Ruins," in late 2002 and early 2003 and released it April 18th, 2003 independently. "Die Trying" was recorded and released independently in 2005, giving the band its mark as an action movie in musical form.
Why this name?
Really, it was one of those things that just hit me. I was listening to Black Sabbath's "N.I.B." and immediately it just... hit me. Then we went for a few months without the acronym actually BEING an acronym, and finally decided to hold a contest. The jury's still out.
Do you play live?
We play anywhere and everywhere that will take us. Niener's, The Hurricane, The Bunker, Studio 24, and then we play shows like Rock For Hope and shows with Sonofagun Productions. So far the main special moments have been just getting a rise out of the crowd - we were playing a show in Atchison, KS through Sonofagun Productions... small ass town. During our set we launch into "War Pigs," you know... one of the few covers we do live. And the ENTIRE CROWD was singing along, there were ligters being held up... it was f***ing great. That and in Manhattan where I spotted some people singing along to our tunes, which is always a good feeling.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It makes it easier for smaller artists to promote, and that scares the major labels, who generally f*** the artist out of any money anyway.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Hell no - go with the smaller national labels like Metal Blade and Now or Never Records. Better off that way... still get the distribution, but you still get money too. Just not nearly as much backing from the record company. At least you're not AS in debt, though, right?
