19 year old Alexis Fowler, aka Mz Unique is one of hip-hop's most dynamic up and coming artists. Mz Unique started performing at age 10 in school and church talent shows where she began to be recognized for her ability to perform in front of large audiences.
Once the interest of the Music industry was sparked, Mz Unique studied some of the musicians that caught her attention such as: Jay-z, Kanye West and even R&B artists such as Beyonce' and Alicia Keys. Mz Unique's style was infused with heartfelt messages from experiences she gained at a young age while living with her mother. She began expressing her creativity through her music by creating confident, up-tempo jams while still being able to have her listeners connect emotionally when she is speaking on topics that she feels strongly about.
Destined to be heard Mz Unique began putting together her own cd's and distributing them independently. With the mixtapes being such a big influence in today's hip hop she began making appearances on different DJ's Mixtapes and creating her own, competing with some of the best unsigned talent. "Whether an artist is signed to a major label or not, the best way for an artist to boost their popularity in hip-hop is by being consistent with in all aspects of their craft" is a quote from Mz Unique in which she has been living up to. So performing on the stage is definitely not something she takes lightly. Recently opening up for National recording artists such as Souljaboy, Three 3 Mafia, Kia Shine and many others, Mz Unique is taking her taking her career to another level and strengthening her fanbase at the same time.
Mz Unique is currently working on her new project "Shez A Problem (part 2)" after her successful mixtape "Show me My Opponent" which has moved approximately 7,000 units independently. Recently debuting on BET's 106&Park, it has definitely solidified her as a national artist. With that said, it is almost impossible to believe that she was born in the small town of Muskogee, OK. Being played on radio's across the U.S from Oklahoma to New York, from California to Georgia has strengthened her buzz and is beginning to turnMz Unique into a household name. She is currently nominated for two SEA (Southern Entertainment Awards) and is waiting on the results in the middle of March. Her state is definitely supporting the movement and backing her all the way.
Why this name?
I originally went by another name but when I began making beats people started callin me Mz Unique Stylezz. So I kept it.
Do you play live?
Of course. You can catch me everywhere from Oklahoma to NewYork, everycoast. I will actually be touring within the next month or so. I got the chance to do 106&park in Oct of 08 so that was definately an honor.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It exposes your music to a broader audience expecially if your not as mobile as you need to be. A lot of rappers wouldn't be where they are now without the internet, including myself.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It all depends on the circumstances. I wont just sign the first thing that comes along. Everything has to be right.

Jayz, Remy Martin, Plies, Nas, Lupe, Beyonce'
