The story of a balladeer is still writing itself. As we speak. But it's quite impressive how far the band got so far. After sending out their first demo, numerous record companies and publishers showed interest. And it took only one show to get offered a contract. But a balladeer took their time (and are still taking it). To write, to perform and to get to know the record industry better.
In the past a balladeer recorded for free at Abbey Road opened up for Keane and Saybia and did after-shows for 16 Horsepower and Tim Christensen.
Why this name?
Marinus: "The first time I heard the word 'balladeer' was in 'Heropsychodreamer', a song by Live. I didn't know what it meant and I looked it up. I really liked the meaning and the sound of the word. When I had to come up with a band name, I remembered the word. I thought 'a balladeer' was even better than just 'balladeer'."
Do you play live?
At the end of the year we will have done more than 75 shows. We opened up for Keane in Amsterdam and went on tour Saybia.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
A lot. Thought I don't know exactly how.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure, why not.
Band History:
In March 2002 a balladeer gets help from Reyn Ouwehand, a famous Dutch producer who worked with popular Dutch bands like Kane. With Reyn a balladeer records two songs. Two female DJ's of 3FM, Holland's main radio station, pick up one of the songs, called 'Swim with Sam'. In March 2003 a balladeer signs a demo record deal with Universal Music.
