Mountain Kids

Mountain Kids is one person, named Alex Lasher. me. I'm trying to take the path of the one man band, but unfortunately, the limits of my 4-track without a decent computer to use with it mean that I'm limited in my multi-instrumentalizing. Perhaps the extra work it takes to express myself within these limitations will inspire better work over all. a handful of people seem to think so anyway. I'm in another band called Drive All Day, which has a lot more instrumental work and very hi-fi recordings. at the time I'm posting this, we don't have any music available on soundclick, but hopefully that'll all change shortly.
Why this name?
I have a friend who lived in utah working as a raft guide. there was much insanity and unfortunately much self-destruction as well. in utah they are mountain kids with nothing to do but go crazy, despite the mormons. here in delaware I named myself after them, because all we have in delaware is a very normal amount of normal and a normal amount of everything else as well. we self destruct through our own social flaws without a lot of chemical assistance. but we all share the self-destructive tendencies no matter where on earth you are, just someplaces there's more people to hide it from.
no, just kidding, I just liked the ring it had to it when my friend came home and said something about "mountain kids" all that other stuff was made up bullshit.

Do you play live?
I don't play live nearly as much as I'd like to. I do open mics now and then, and occasionally do full sets for free in venues not normally intended for musical performance.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
it evens the playing field a little between those who get paid and those who deserve to.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
unlikely. not at this point anyway. I really want to be on an indie lable that I respect but I'm not currently prepared to dive into something with someone who doesn't have my best interests in mind, to say the least.
Band History:
I've made one ep and one full length, self released. I think I'm always getting better and I think the album I made stands as something on it's own and not just a side project from drive all day. I love drive all day, but I don't write those songs. mountain kids is very important to me because it's much more artistically stimulating for me. I started doing it a year or two ago, and it's pretty much not picked up the pace enough yet for there to be much history.
Your influences?
Jeff Mangum and Neutral Milk Hotel, Microphones, Brian Wilson, Beach Boys, Sufjan Stevens, Will Oldham, etc...
Favorite spot?
I'm pretty disenchanted by places bringing very much more than a change of background.
Equipment used:
acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano, minimal drums, in general I like finding sounds that will work and I don't put a lot of thought into it.
Anything else...?
I've sort of worked this one into all my other answers. I guess visit my bands website at www.geocities.com/drivealldaymusic
