We are holography, a four piece alternative rock band from Reading, England. We are aged 20-21 and we got together in spring 2004. We have recorded some demo songs in Marcus' home studio and this is what you can find in the music section. Our members are Marcus Pike (vocals, guitar), Chris Chan (lead guitar), Jonathan Cairns (keyboards, guitar) and Chris Russell (bass).
Why this name?
Chris C came up with the name. He chose it because holography means the art of making holograms, or optical illlusions. He thought that our music would be like that in a sense that it would create an emotion, or a picture in the listener's mind. He says that if it can do that then we as creators of music have achieved our goal.
Band History:
Holography started when Jonathan Cairns whistled a tune he had thought of in a lesson with Marcus. Marcus liked it and said that it should be turned into a song. The tune became the keyboard riff in 'Social Minorities'. Marcus had already suggested forming a band, particularly as Marcus has the privilege of having a music studio in a converted garage. We decided to record some demos there before playing live, due to having no drummer.

Chris Chan joined the band as a guitarist and bassist for our first meeting. Having heard about the opportunity, Chris Russell joined for the second meeting as a second guitarist. We had the first three sessions over the space of about two months, in which we fully recorded 'Social Minorities', and then another song that Jonathan had composed called 'Command'.

By this time Chris R had realised that Chris Chan was better than him at guitar and was also playing bass for the band. Obviously this would not work live so Chris R decided to learn bass so Chris C could focus on playing lead guitar.

We continued to record various songs and covers over the next couple of years but we are currently on hiatus as we are all at different universities.
Your influences?
Our main influences (bands that we all like) are Muse, Radiohead and Pink Floyd. Our music is sometimes compared to Muse, some songs more than others. Because all our members write songs and all have different influences, we have a fairly diverse sound.
