In a world where the anti image has become the pop image, Fading Reality set out to do one thing and one thing only: Create good music.
Why this name?
Our original name was Severed. But recently it seems that about 20 other bands thought it was a good band name too so we changed it to Fading Reality which was the name of our first track on our first Demo.
Do you play live?
Was just starting to gig when our drummer pretty much vanished. Seems like drummers are not only hard to come by but hard to keep around too. If know any drummers in the area shoot us a line!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It not only makes it easier for people to find new bands but it also makes it much easier for bands like us to get ourselves heard.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Definitely. Music is our lives and it would be nice to not have to go to jobs that just get in the way.
Band History:
The concept of Fading Reality was born in the summer of 1994, under the name Severed, when singer, Jason Smitherman, wanted to get away from his speed metal roots by going a little more electronic. The project was halted when Jason was approached to form what would become Arcanum. By the summer of 1996, Arcanum had long fallen apart and 2 songs, Kitre and Blessed, were recorded under the name Severed. In 1998 the project was halted by the formation of Fusion. About two months later, Fusion was no more and all his time was dedicated to Severed. The summer of 1999 gave birth to 2 new songs under the Severed name: Fading Reality and Drift. By this time Jason Gilbertson came into the picture. It turned out that the two Jason's shared a common musical vision and Joined forces in December of 1999. The two of them threw ideas around for the next few months. In May of 2000, with nothing more than a guitar, bass, a radio shack mic, a drum machine, and an outdated computer, they released the first official Demo under the Severed name. The demo made its way over to Jon Barnard, a friend the Jason's met a few years back. By the end of May Jon became the new guitarist. The next year was spent just trying to keep things together not to mention trying to find a drummer. In February of 2001 Chris, from Ellipse Productions, introduced them to drummer, PJ Chesney. 2 years later he pretty much just disappeared and it's been back to the 3 of them ever since. They are currently putting the final touches on a full length album for the Indie label, Statue Records.
Your influences?
Everything that we have been exposed to has influenced us in some way.
