Toronto is really becoming a hot bed of outstanding musical talent, and the
trend shows no signs of slowing down. Meet Freda a beautiful, feisty and energetic young lady. Freda's career is red hot right now her single "Dreaming of Tonite" has reached #1 for it's 6th week in a row in the freestyle charts and is up 2 spots to #18 in the Top 40 Charts. The songstress has focused her career mainly in Toronto's local dance music community. A frequent performer in Toronto and Montreal's dance clubs, she is well known for giving of her time to numerous fundraising events. Among her achievements is an opening gig for Italian Europop sensation and Columbia Recording Artist Alexia during her Canadian Tour and now Freda is ready to move forward and follow her own dream as it would be a shame to keep her from the rest of the world!
Why this name?
It was given to me at birth!! - Not sure if it'll change in the future.... :P
Do you play live?
In clubs all across Toronto and Montreal, Canada... I've performed in southern Europe as well... Any chance I get - I perform!!!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Sure I think it's changed things drastically.. it makes it harder on the larger record companies but also gives much more opportunities for the independent artists to be heard... and in my case has allowed me to work with the most awesome producers around the world which would have never happened without it.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure I have no problem with the majors... if they don't have a problem with me :P
Band History:
Freda began studying music at 6 years of age when she became jealous of her older brother who had started taking piano lessons. Lucky for her this started a wonderful trend as she began taking flute and vocal lessons a few years later. At 14,she began writing song lyrics to which she slowly added melodies and now only in her 20's she has accumulated a catalogue of over 350 song lyrics with catchy melodies to over half of them. She has released many of her songs on different Canadian Compilations.
Your influences?
I love Diane Warren - she was the first 'popular' piano songbook I ever bought... she wasn't as big as she is now and it had all her older songs... but it made me want to write songs like her!! I'm also a huge Beatles fan, as well as Celine Dion and Madonna.
Favorite spot?
Greece :)
Equipment used:
I do all my pre-production on a Korg T3 workstation - believe it or not!!
